13 Reasons Why - Episode 8
Episode eight is dedicated to Ryan, the head of the school paper, who also published her personal poem for the whole school to read. The poem itself is beautiful, it made me happy for Hannah that she finally found something. But as usual happiness is not long lasting in this series. This episode shows Hannah’s fear of the future. She’s searching for a college but everything seems out of reach. I thought this part of the episode was real, this is a big issue for a lot of teens.
Other than that Tony takes Clay on a really dramatic rock climbing adventure and Clay is acting like a bitch… Finally they also explain Hannah and Tony’s connection to each other. That convinces Clay to start listening to the tapes again since he decided to stop. Tony finally comes out of the closet, if anybody missed the clear hints at the school dance.
As Tony explains to Clay that he is gay, they just have to add a scene where Clay responds like this:
Clay: You like me as a friend though, like not in a romantic way right?
Tony: Sure (Pats Clay on the shoulder)
Maybe Tony has a crush on Clay but it's whatever because he's seeing somebody. It's soooo stereotypical for every straight guy to instantly think gay guys would hit on them. I find this scene very unnecessary.
Overall I think it’s getting a bit silly, I hate that Clay is out on some revenge ride and being really mean. The others obviously have done terrible things but it doesn’t really give Clay a free card to be mean :/. Clay calm your tits and please finish the tapes
